HubAustin: A long time coming..
A long, long time ago (February, 2011) in a Microsoft office far, far away (North Austin) Phil Wheat hosted a Startup Weekend. It wasn’t the first in the area and it won’t be the last, but it was unique in that Kyle pitched his idea of a South Austin coworking space. The idea didn’t get picked but Toyin thought it was a good idea and chatted further. At the same time, Keith pondered the same idea but knew it was impossible alone.
After Kyle & Toyin polled the tech community in March, the idea caught fire and attracted a few others including Keith. As the office search dragged on and the finances came together, the group dwindled back to the three.
Fast forward to September 2011 and suddenly everything lined up. A furnished space became available on South Congress days before Austin Startup Week and the community helped spread the word.
We opened in October of 2011, and have been slowly but steadily growing in membership since! Isn’t it time you came to join us!?
